Thursday night saw Mutemath hit up Melbourne’s Corner Hotel for one of their Groovin in the Moo sideshows. For over two hours they put on one killer live show, instrumental jams between tracks, crowd surfing, and drumming on top the crowd kept the party going. Without a doubt a band that needs to see live.
Special mention has to go to indie rocker The Cairos for kicking of the night with a quality set.
Josh Klinghoffer is a serious musician, most people will know him for recently joining the Red Hot Chili Peppers on guitar, however it’s his work with The Bicycle Thief, Ataxia, John Frusciante, and Gnarls Barkley that is more impressive. His latest endeavour is the experimental rock band Dot Hacker, joined by Jonathan Hischke on bass, Eric Gardner on drums and Clint Walsh on guitar, synthesizers and programming, Dot Hacker have just released their debut album ‘Inhibition’. Previously released material by the band have been limited to a handful of tracks, one of those being the stellar Order/Disorder, if this is any indication of things to come then this is going to be one impressive debut.
On this day in 1967 Jimi Hendrix was at Olympic Studios in London with his manager Chas Chandler and engineer Eddie Kramer working on the final mixes for the Experience’s debut album “Are You Experienced”. Hendrix classics Hey Joe, Purple Haze, Foxy Lady, Stone Free, The Wind Cries Mary and Red House can all be found on this album, however relatively unknown tracks such as Highway Chile and the beautiful Remember prove this is something special. With out a doubt one of the greatest debut albums of all time and one of the finest moments in music.
Happy Record Store Day kids, hope everyone got their hands on some sweet limited edition wax. Starting back in 2008, Record Store Day is getting bigger and better every year with more and more stores getting on board and more bands performing and releasing limited edition albums and singles. There’s nothing quite like losing yourself flipping through vinyl’s at your favourite record shop, so get out there, support your local store and keep buying music.
Splenour in the Grass will return to its original site this year in Byron Bay. The official line up was announced this morning with big names Jack White, The Smashing Pumpkins, At The Drive In, The Kooks, and Bloc Party headlining the festival. Despite these big dogs a Tame Impala and Father John Misty sideshow will do me just fine.

“The white boys who stole the blues” have just announced a 2012 Australian tour. Its been a while since the blues rock duo have made the trek from Arkon, Ohio to Oz, the last time they attempted this journey they pulled out due to exhaustion. Extreme exhaustion. Lets hope they get some decent rest this time around.
